To address the devastating effects of the September 2013 floods to Colorado’s Front Range Watersheds, the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) partnered with the DNR Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) to help implement Phase 2 Flood Recovery through the Emergency Watershed Protection Program (EWP). Great Ecology, providing ecological guidance as part of the Enginuity project team, supported the revegetation of impacted areas for 74 different stream reaches under this project.
Great Ecology’s scope included project design and implementation, as well as oversight for the increase and provision of riparian plant materials. This also included harvesting native seeds and ecotypic willow stakes; developing seed mixes and planting plans; scheduling and overseeing volunteer planting opportunities; construction oversight; and monitoring for restoration success. The flood restoration efforts extended through Spring 2018.
